Magnetic sensors for industrial and automotive applications

Semiconductor-based magnetic sensors have been widely used in industrial and automotive applications due to their high reliability and low cost. Several figures of merits (FOM) of these magnetic sensors are important for real-world applications and, thus, play an important role of on their adoption and commercialization. They include magnetic sensitivity, noise, offset, resistance, temperature drift, cost of manufacturing and size. In this tutorial, we will compare Hall sensors based on Si, III-V, and other materials, xMR, and fluxgate sensors on these FOMs and how they are being used in industrial and automotive applications.

Magnetoresistive and anomalous Hall sensors: from static to dynamic linearization and single device vector field sensing

I will start with an overview of the different types of MR sensors, focusing on linearization techniques, then introduce the general concept of dynamic biasing and explain how it can be used to implement a simple sensor with excellent performance. The presentation will also showcase some proof-of-concept applications of these newly developed sensors, including position sensing, 3D field mapping, current sensing, vehicle detection, eddy current detection, magnetic flux leakage detection, etc. I will conclude by discussing the future prospects of MR and anomalous Hall sensors, particularly those leveraging the spin-charge interconversion processes.

Magnetic nanoparticles and sensors for rapid diagnostic testing in healthcare, food safety, and environmental control

Do you know what rapid diagnostic tests have been for the COVID-19 pandemic? Will they still have a role in the future? I think so. They have limitations, mainly their low sensitivity and quantification capacity. Magnetic nanoparticles and sensors can overcome such constraints and help spread their application to other problems in biomedicine, foods, and environmental monitoring. We will discuss the magnetic nanolabels' requirements and the sensing methods, show application examples in various fields and point out future perspectives.
